Kylie Lafrades, 1st Year Business major, #maJeStiC If you knew that in one year you would pass away suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why? “If I could change anything about the way I am living now I would do things that I am passionate about rather than fear judgement. I would also really try to put myself out there and show people who I really am.” - Is it because what you are doing now is something that you don’t want to do? “I think that I am getting better at talking to people and trying to show people who I really am. But I am still hesitant because I am afraid of harsh judgement.” #HumansofAPSA

Abby Alano, 1st Year Undeclared, #TSunaMi When was the last time that you felt loved? “It was back when I was in the Philippines, we were celebrating my debut [18th Birthday]. My friends sent me a video message saying how much they care about me. Everyone from both sides of my family attended. At the end of the party, my cousins all went up to me and sent a short message in Tagalog. Overall it was a lot of fun.” - Was it the first time to go back to the Philippines? “I go back every three years, but that was the first time that I had gone to the Philippines after four or five years. Being away from everyone makes me feel disconnected at times since we are only family by blood and not by relation. That moment at my debut was the first time I felt that we were family.” #HumansofAPSA

Christine Ho, 1st Year Kinesiology Major, #CHaMpion: What does APSA mean to you? “To me APSA is like a second family. It was the first organization that I went to when I first got to school. The environment was very welcoming and open. APSA is something that I enjoy a lot and I am glad that I joined my first year.” - Is there a specific event that drew you to APSA? “I think the event that drew me to APSA was FAMBAM because coming to college it was hard at first. FAMBAM provided the opportunity to meet and get to know people of similar interests, also to make friends as well. Through FAMBAM I found a group of people that I hang out with now and my family is really cool too.” #HumansofAPSA

What makes you happy? Diane Truong, 3rd Year [transfer] Business Management Major, #CHaMpion: “Chewbacca. I just love the way he roars. Growing up, I would always go on Youtube and watch clips of him. I have everything from stuff animals, a blanket, to a t-shirt and pajamas. But the funny thing is, I have never watched a single Star Wars movie in my life.” #HumansofAPSA

What is your best remedy to relieve stress? Cia Maria Raphaella Licas, 1st Year Pre Kinesiology Major (emphasis in PT), #CHaMpion: “My best to remedy to destress would probably cross stitching. Basically, cross stitching is like sewing but in the form of a cross. I make a pattern on this piece of cloth. I think cross stitching is a cool habit that I picked up and my dad taught me. It just makes me focus on the task at hand and makes me forget all the tasks that I had that week." #HumansofAPSA

If you could anyone advice about being stressed out with midterms and life in general, what would your advice be to them? Joel Edquiban, 3rd Year Computer Engineering Major, #CHaMpion: “It is all about time management honestly, Just make time for yourself. If you think that you are going to spend the whole time studying or like dedicating for like something else chances are that is not going to happen and then that will probably make stress even worse. So, instead of doing that try to find some time to take a break for yourself and enjoy it, and then try to continue studying or whatever you were doing before to see if that helps lower the stress.” #HumansofAPSA

Inspired by Humans of New York and ’17-’18 Historian Laiko Cayanan, APSA has created our own platform, #HumansofAPSA, to showcase and learn about our fellow members’ through the experiences and advice they share. If you could give any piece of advice to someone new to APSA, what would it be? Austin Monterola, 2nd Year Civil Engineering Major: "Go to GBM's if you can, it is a great way to meet people as well as stay up to date with things going on in APSA. " Jeffery Cardinez, 2nd Year Psychology Major: "I would just say, just be out there and social because everyone in this organization is friendly and approachable. They not only willing to be your friend, willing to be a study buddy but also willing to get boba with you and I think that is what new members should do."
